Chapter Three
That afternoon, Hermione decided to add on to an Arithmancy assignment. When she needed additional information she left and headed for the library for a book.
"See you at supper, I'll just be at the library," They nodded and she raced to the library. She wanted to be on time for dinner.
As Hermione was looking for a book named, "Arithmancy Writers Throughout the Eras" by Lauren O'Flaherty, someone tapped her on the shoulder.
"What?" said Hermione absent-mindedly. She turned around only to face a particular fifth year Slytherin.
"Why were your friends accusing me of spying on them?" asked Draco.
"Oh, so you followed me all the way here just to ask me that?"
"No, I was looking for 'Arithmancy Writers Throughout the Eras' and I saw you and decided to ask you the million galleon question. Bet the Weasel would love to get that question right, that poor prat," sneered Draco, completely unaware that he'd been accused of stalking her.
"Don't you say that about Ron!"
"Standing up for your second boyfriend? Potter's going to be quite heartbroken once he knows about this,"
"Oh shut your trap, Malfoy, unless you wish to have each of your limbs personally ripped of one by one by yours truly,"
"I'll be getting my book and I'll be off, I haven't any time for you,"
"Too late, I've got the book now,"
Hermione smiled to herself. Sweet vengeance, nothing like preventing Malfoy from getting a good mark...
"I haven't got any time to waste! The assignment is due at the end of holidays!"
"Aw! Poor widdle Dwayco can't have his book,"
"Oh that's mature,"
"Well, I don't see any alternative," she said.
Malfoy groaned loudly and impatiently.
"Unless we work together here..." said Hermione very quietly, almost incomprehensively. Malfoy had heard,
"Well, if you really want to, I suppose we could work together,"
"It was a mere suggestion! I did not imply that we work together!"
"So then it was in your sub-conscience, deep-down you really wanted to work with me,"
"Since when do you know about sub-conscience?"
"I know it may seem hard to believe, but I do have feelings!"
"You're right, it is hard to believe. You're just a cold-hearted person! You don't care for anybody else besides your self,"
"I do care about other people! I care about...about...about you!" Draco said this so quickly, but at the realisation of what he'd just said he clamped his hands over his mouth and a look of terror crossed his face.
"W-What?"
"Well, er..."
"You, Draco Malfoy, (she elongated the 'Malfoy') care for me, Hermione Granger, a Mudblood?"
"Well, that's what I said wasn't it?" the look of terror had long strayed from his face; his face was now home to his usual sneer.
"Yes, that is what you said. So, I have to go now, good day," said Hermione, obviously still under shock.
"But, I need the book too. Can't we just put aside our differences and concentrate on our work?" Hermione couldn't believe her ears. Draco Malfoy was trying to make peace... Has the world gone MAD? No... I suppose he finally got some sense knocked into him...
"Oh all right," she sighed, she respected his efforts and sat down to work.
They worked quietly without event, which was highly unusual. You'd have thought this may have gathered a crowd, but it did not, considering that everybody was at dinner.
"Well I'm done, what about you?" said Hermione quietly.
"Great, so am I. Funny, isn't it, that we thought of the same book?"
"Sure is. Not "ha-ha" funny but odd because we're so different
"Well, besides the fact that you're in Gryffindor and I'm in Slytherin, we're not so different. We care about our grades and we're top of all our classes,"
"How flattering! Maybe we're not so different after all. But, I have to go now. Harry and Ron were expecting me ages ago! Goodbye Draco!"
Hermione rushed off leaving Malfoy all alone...
"Bye, 'Mione," he whispered at her disappearing figure.

Harry and Ron went to the library to start off their homework and Hermoine tagged along to help them out (Honestly you two, you'll never learn if you always copy off mine...). The boys were tired of doing homework and Hermione has to admit it was rather monotone, so they headed off to the Quidditch pitch to fly around on Harry's Firebolt. They were having such a great time they hadn't noticed...
"What's that git doing? Why is he spying on us?" asked Ron, pointing to a window on the lower half of the castle. Malfoy had been watching them intently until Ron pointed at him.
"That was odd," noticed Harry looking at Hermione, trading confused looks with her.
"I'm going to make some pulp out of him, coming?" said Ron making a fist with his hand.
"I'm not sure that's a good idea, what if Filch catches you?" Hermione replied worriedly.
"I don't care. You don't have to come. I've had just about enough of that prat and his cronies." Ron looked very angry. Nothing could stop his adrenaline rush. He was determined to get Malfoy once and for all.
"I'm not coming either," said Harry, "I don't want to be a part of this."
"I guess my friends don't care about me as much as I had thought,"
"Oh, Ron! Don't say that! We really DO care about you. So much, in fact, as to protect you from getting expelled from Hogwarts!" Hermione was becoming angry at Ron's stubbornness.
"Gee, thanks a lot." And with that Ron stormed off angrily. (And in Hermione's opinion, ungratefully.)
"What's gotten into him?" she asked Harry, gazing into his eyes. How I love those eyes...
"Well, this morning he told me that he'd gotten a letter from his mother telling him that Mr. Weasley had been taken into questioning with the Ministry and it was all Lucius' doing,"
"That's awful! He is a foul man!"
"Tell me about it," Harry was inching closer to Hermione.
"Harry? What's going on? You're acting far away..."
"I-I'm thinking about what I'm going to do next,"
"About Malfoy?"
"No, about you..." Harry was now holding Hermione by the arms.
"I don't understand, Harry," she said cocking her head to the side, casting a confused look.
"You will..." He spoke softly in her ear and then pressed his warm lips against hers. The warmth of the kiss collided with the coolness of the outdoors to make a pleasurable sensation.
Hermione moved her hands to his shoulders and massaged them gently and then with her finger she lightly traced his spine.
She realized that she was kissing her best friend and tore away from the kiss, "Harry, I don't know..." She walked off leaving Harry speechless.
What am I going to do? This is Harry I was kissing... Well he kissed me, but I guess it doesn't make it any better. But that kiss... It was phenomenal...
