We'll Never Know

Chapter Two
A high-pitched cackle filled her head, "Now that I have a spy at Hogwarts, famous Harry Potter will be in my clutches before Easter!"
The evil laugh once again filled her head.
"Now, Wormtail, get me Nagini, we need to train her for her journey to Hogwarts, she'll be glad to have a full meal for once..."
* * *
Hermione woke up with a start, cold sweat dripping from her face. She was breathing very heavily and her chest was heaving. She had to inform Dumbledore.
She got dressed as quickly as she could and rushed to the Headmaster's office.
"Miss Granger what are you doing out of bed?" came a voice from behind her which surely belonged to Professor McGonagall.
"Professor, there's a spy! At Hogwarts! Voldemort...Nagini! Harry is in grave danger! I need to speak with Dumbledore!" exclaimed Hermione in a rushed tone.
"Calm down, I assure you that the security here at Hogwarts is very high. The giants are doing a formidable job at keeping the school and grounds entirely safe. Now, if you'll please return to your dormitory," said Professor McGonagall fixing her square-rimmed spectacles, "Professor Dumbledore hasn't any time for..."
"I haven't any time for what, Professor?" asked Dumbledore himself.
"Professor! I had a dream about Voldemort, he said that there is a spy at Hogwarts and that he is going to have Harry before Easter! He was talking about someone or something named, "Nagini"," said a frantic Hermione.
"This mustn't be taken lightly! The trip to Hogsmeade shall be postponed, no, no, I trust Professor, that you will announce the cancellation of the trip. Now, Miss Granger, follow me into my office."
"Yes, Albus, I will announce it in the Great Hall at breakfast," declared McGonagall. She walked off muttering to herself.
Hermione followed Dumbledore into his office. The password was, "Pepper Imps".
"I am very concerned about this dream, you say a spy? At Hogwarts?" said Dumbledore matting down his beard.
"Yes, and whoever it is will kidnap Harry and feed him to this Nagini, Professor, we have to protect Harry!" stated Hermione worriedly.
"Yes, yes, I will have it taken care of. I will inform the teachers, Head Boy and Girl to keep and eye out for anything, as well as the Prefects. On another note, it's a pity that you didn't accept our offer for the position of Gryffindor Prefect, you would have made a smashing Prefect, if I do say so myself,"
Hermione remembered the day she'd gotten her letter with the badge. She was very excited but was convinced she already had too many things on her plate, and with a heavy heart she sent the badge back with a letter rejecting the position.
"Thank you, Professor," said Hermione blushing fiercely.
"Now, I don't want you late for breakfast, I'm sure the house-elves have yet made us a wonderful meal," said Dumbledore, his eyes twinkling.
"Oh, yes Professor," Hermione said, a bit more relaxed and happy because of Professor Dumbledore's appreciation for the house-elves.
Hermione walked out of the Headmaster's office feeling less weight on her shoulders. She walked towards the Prefects' bathroom, what Dumbledore said gave her an idea. She'd gotten the password from Cho Chang, all she had to do was be sympathetic about Cedric and all the information just spilled out.
"Spearmint," she muttered and the portrait swung open revealing a beautiful bathroom. It was so luxurious that Hermione regretted that she'd rejected this. With a sigh, she turned some taps curiously. She was pleasantly surprised by what she was seeing. Hermione slipped out of her clothing and into the swimming pool sized tub and relaxed. Suddenly, the door swung open only to reveal a rather surprised Draco Malfoy.
"Granger! What're you doing here? You certainly are NOT a Prefect!" he exclaimed incredulously.
Hermione just stared back blankly searching for a plausible excuse.
"How in the world did you get the password," he said glancing back at the portrait hole.
"Don't get your panties in a bunch, Malfoy. I have my ways. Haven't you heard?" she asked slyly.
"I'll report you to Snape, I will!" sneered Malfoy happily.
"Draco, please don't! You have no idea what it'll do to me!" pouted Hermione seductively. She was manipulating him, using his first name and all.
"Ha! Like I'd ever miss a chance to get Miss Granger the prefect, straight-A student in trouble. Snape'll have you expelled in no time at all!" laughed Malfoy.
"Oh, please Draco! I beg of you! *Now showing more cleavage* I'll do anything," said Hermione in her most seducing voice.
Draco, realizing that he'd been in a room with a naked girl, who'd do anything came to his senses and said, "Well, Hermione, if you ARE willing to do anything...I ask of you just one thing, a kiss."
Hesitantly Hermione said, "Oh all right! But, you'll have to wait until I'm out of here."
"Oh, of course Granger, but I was under the impression that I'd come in with you..." he said mockingly. He shut his eyes and waited.
Hermione shrugged off his comment. She got out of the tub and began to dry herself off.
"Done yet?" asked Malfoy impatiently.
"Humph," said Hermione.
Malfoy opened his eyes, obviously thinking she was done, just...She wasn't.
"Draco!" shrieked Hermione, shocked.
Malfoy covered his eyes as quickly as possible and said, "Well, what am I supposed to get from 'Humph'?"
"Well, you could have made sure!" protested Hermione, defensively. She dressed as rapidly as she could.
"I'm sorry about that, but I am certainly not sorry for what I saw," answered Malfoy gratefully. He was blushing furiously and smiling inwardly.
"W-What?" asked Hermione, baffled by his response. Had he liked what he'd seen? Had he planned on opening his eyes when he very well knew I wasn't ready? All these questions were swimming through her head.
"Er, never mind. It was nothing. I'll have my kiss and I'll be off," stammered Malfoy.
She's never seen him like this. He was...not being Malfoy. Well, at least not the Malfoy she knew.
"Er, fine how will it be then?" she asked.
"What do you mean?"
"The kiss? How do you want it?"
"However you want it,"
"Well, I have to be given guide-lines...I thought you were good at these things. Especially the way you just dish out kisses under well placed mistle-toe to unsuspecting Gryffindors," said Hermione with an evil smile, which resembled the one Malfoy usually wore.
"Well then, I'll have one just like the one beneath the mistle-toe then. You owe me one," said Malfoy matching her smile.
"Sure," said Hermione, she had said anything.
Hermione walked over to Malfoy and gave him a replica kiss of the one he'd given her just the night before. The kiss ended and Hermione was off. Just as she was about to open the portrait--
"Well, then I guess I'll see you later, in Hogsmeade," stuttered Malfoy, nervously.
"Oh, it's cancelled, the trip, I mean. Dumbledore just told me," replied Hermione in a matter-of-factly tone.
"How do you know?" asked Draco curiously.
"Well, I overheard him tell McGonagall on my way here,"
"My, my, Granger you sure do get around this old place, don't you? Wouldn't mind showing me around, giving me a few tricks of the trade?"
"Not even if a manticore was going to be set on me," snapped Hermione. She rushed out towards the Great Hall. She was looking for Harry, but he was nowhere to be seen...I wonder where he could be...
"Ron, where's Harry?" she asked suddenly.
"Beats me. He left the Common Room fifteen minutes ago and I thought he wanted an early start on breakfast before Hogsmeade. Oh, which reminds me, the trip is cancelled 'due to some unforeseen event'. Maybe somebody finally killed Mrs. Norris," said Ron hopefully.
"Oh, Ron!" she hit him playfully on the shoulder, "We really should find Harry though."
"Sure thing. I'll check the showers and our dorm,"
"Yup, good thinking. I'll check the Quidditch pitch and the library," said Hermione, whilst grabbing a toast.
She tore towards the library. She spotted Harry sitting at a table looking rather glum.
"Hey Harry!" she said in her most cheerful voice.
"Hi," he said with a weak wave.
"What's wrong?"
"I know...about you and that...that...I know about you and Malfoy," he said flatly.
"What are you talking about?"
"Well, last night, Ginny told me about the kiss you shared with him. I decided to talk to you first thing this morning. You weren't in the Common Room, which was unusual so I came to your only other hang out. When I got here and you weren't here, I checked the map," he held out the Marauderer's Map, which had been given to him by Fred and George in his third year. "It clearly showed you and Malfoy in the Prefects' bathroom together, and I highly doubt you were in there playing chess."
Harry looked deeply hurt.
"Oh! Harry! I can explain. You see, the kiss last night was under a mistle-toe and Malfoy was being a prat. Plus, he kissed me," Hermione explained, "and, well...this morning he caught me taking a bath in the Prefects' bathroom and he said that the only way he wouldn't tell Snape would be if I kissed him."
"Oh..." said Harry sheepishly, "sorry..."
"Oh, Harry! You have nothing to be sorry about! The circumstances are suspicious! I have no idea what's gotten into Malfoy though. Wanting to kiss me? What a joke!" laughed Hermione.
"I don't blame him," said Harry, blushing.
"Harry, let's go eat, I'm starved!" she held out a hand for him to hold and he eagerly took it without hesitation.
They walked out of the library, happily hand in hand, laughing off the whole incident.
A/N: Hey fan fiction surfers! I hope all of you liked the second chapter! I know Malfoy was being rather blunt but he's *gasp* (if you hadn't noticed) falling for Hermione. Please review...I've got the third one on the way. Almost done typing! Thx. Peace out.
