A Love That Was Meant To Be
by Darkfire75
Author's note: Okay, I don't own Harry Potter (although, I wish I did), but I do own the plot and my character Yvonne. I am very proud of this story and I promise it will get better as the chapters proceed. If I get at least ten reviews, then I'll post the next chapter. I hope you like it!
Prologue
Yvonne Davis stared down the Gryffindor table and nearly blushed when she saw a handsome sixteen-year-old boy with shoulder-length black hair and a mischievous smile. His name was Sirius Black. Yvonne fumbled with her food as she watched him fool and joke with his friends James Potter, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew. Lily Evans was sitting beside her laughing with the boys, or otherwise known as the Marauders.
Yvonne had always liked Sirius because he was a charming person and very nice to the girls. However, he had a little tendency to pick on the cruel Slytherins, such as Severus Snape and his gang. During third year, Sirius and Yvonne had both been put in detention for spilling ingredients to a potion during class. Once detention was over, they had become friends.
His best friend was James Potter, who her friend Lily fancied. The only problem was that Sirius had absolutely no idea that Yvonne was in love with him. It had happened in fifth year and escalated into something more than just a crush. Yvonne had been walking down the halls of Hogwarts when she bumped into Sirius. It was the beginning of fifth year and so she hadn't really seen anybody aside from Lily. When Yvonne noticed who it was, she nearly had dropped her books out of shock. Sirius had gotten handsome over vacation and the brunette somehow found herself attracted to him.
Yvonne's memories were suddenly interrupted when a piece of bread came whizzing by her face. "Yvonne, duck!" cried Sirius. She moved out of the way as he threw another piece of bread. This time it hit the back of Severus Snape's head. James, Peter, and Sirius cracked up. Remus was shaking his head disapprovingly, but cracking a smile as well.
Snape turned around angrily and saw the four Gryffindor boys laughing hysterically at him. He glanced at the other end of the table and sighed. Lily Evans was sitting there with an amused expression, trying to contain her laughter. Right next to her was Yvonne Davis. He felt slightly embarrassed. He never used to feel so embarrassed but that was before he developed his crush on Yvonne. During fourth year he had marveled at how beautiful she had gotten. It was a pity none of her Marauder friends noticed how pretty she had become. Another thing that got his attention was that she wasn't laughing. She looked upset and sad at the same time.
Snape turned back around growling inwardly to himself. His friend Lucius Malfoy looked slightly concerned, but didn't let it show. Finally, breakfast was over and it was time for class. Yvonne grabbed her books and walked side by side with Lily.
"What were you thinking about?" Lily asked as they made their way to Transfiguration.
"Nothing," mumbled Yvonne.
"C'mon, just tell me. I won't tell anyone."
"I'll tell you after class."
"Okay."
The two girls took their seats in the front. Professor McGonagall was one of their favorite teachers so they always got the front seats. James, Sirius, Remus, and Peter sat in the back where they could cause mayhem. After the lesson, Yvonne took Lily aside.
"Now, you promise that if I tell you, you won't tell anyone else?" Yvonne muttered.
"I give you my word," replied Lily.
"Good. Well...see...um...I kinda like Sirius."
"Kinda like him? How can you 'kinda like him'?"
"It's hard to explain. Whenever he's around I get butterflies in my stomach and I can't talk straight. Whenever he looks at me I feel my knees go weak. Whenever he comes too close I feel sensations in my body."
"So are you suggesting that we keep you away from him?"
"No. It's just...I think I love him."
"Yvonne, love is a strong word. You and Sirius barely even talk. You know how James and I started out. During the first two years at Hogwarts, we couldn't stand each other, but after third year, we began to fall for each other. You and Sirius need some time. How long have you known how you feel?"
"Since fifth year. He was so handsome and now I can't get him off my mind."
"Well, maybe I could talk to James. He could help. We could try to get you and Sirius talking and maybe even dating."
"But what if James tells Sirius? I mean, they're best friends."
"James doesn't like to keep secrets, but I'm sure he'd keep one for you. You're one of his friends after all."
"Okay. But please don't do anything drastic."
"I won't. See you at dinner!" Lily said as she hurried off to Defense Against the Dark Arts. That was one class that Yvonne refused to take. Too much evil was just...well, there wasn't even a word for it. She slowly trudged down the corridors until she reached the Potions room. Professor Blackhart, Head of Slytherin House, was the teacher. He was looking particularly sour today.
Yvonne took a seat in the front. Even though this wasn't one of her favorite classes, she did very well. She had taken a seat with Severus Snape and Lucius Malfoy. She didn't like Lucius all that much, but Severus was all right. He was very kind to her and Lily. But he always snapped at her other friends, which was an understanding. With what the four troublemakers did to him, it was no reason why Snape detested them.
Severus watched her nervously. Her beautiful brown hair framed her face and blue eyes perfectly. Professor Blackhart began the lesson and Yvonne immediately started taking down her notes. Snape watched her scribble down what the teacher said. It almost seemed as if she had bewitched her quill to write fast. But he knew that she would have never done that.
Potions ended and Yvonne made her way down the hallway. She met up with Lily again. Lily explained that she had told James, Peter, and Remus. The only one who didn't know was Sirius. The boys had a plan to get Yvonne and Sirius together. They would try to get the two alone in the Gryffindor common room. Yvonne was a little nervous when they told her their plan, but agreed. If this was the only way to win Sirius's heart, then so be it.
Later that night, Sirius was sitting in the corner doing homework and Yvonne was sitting by the fire doing some of her own work. Lily, James, Remus, and Peter remained in the corner of the room telling people to leave the common room. Finally, they decided to leave. As they did, they hoped their plan would set into action.
Sirius looked over at the fireplace and saw Yvonne sitting in an armchair. She looked very comfortable. He quietly made his way over to her and sat down in the chair beside her. "Lotta homework?" he asked.
"Yeah," she replied without looking up. "Did you realize how quiet it suddenly got?"
"Yeah, its kinda spooky. But then, there's Hogwarts for ya. It's always creepy and spooky."
Yvonne chuckled. "You're funny sometimes. You know that, right?" she said.
"Hey, I'm funny all the time," retorted Sirius.
"Yes, yes you are. I'm sorry."
"You're forgiven."
They sat in silence again. "Hey Yvonne?" Sirius said breaking the silence. "Would you like to go to Hogsmeade with me tomorrow? It's the last trip there this year and I'd really like for you to come along with me."
"Really?" she said. "Well I'd love to go with you. Usually I just hang around here when everyone goes to Hogsmeade, but now I have a reason to go. Thanks, Sirius." Yvonne leaned over and pecked his cheek. Even in those brief 15 seconds, the two of them felt something tingly when her lips touched his cheek. Both of them blushed crimson.
Yvonne packed up her books and walked to the girls' dormitories. Sirius did the same and went to go up to the boys' dormitories.
***
The next day turned out to be better than Yvonne could imagine. She and Lily met the boys at Hogsmeade. James took Lily by the hand and showed her to all the great places that he loved to go. Sirius however was very nervous when he saw Yvonne waiting expectantly for him to do something.
Remus and Peter were talking in the corner giving Sirius reassuring smiles. "Um...Yvonne?" Sirius finally said.
"Yes?" she asked.
"Would you like a butterbeer?"
"Yeah."
He smiled and took her into a pub called Three Broomsticks. Madam Selena was at the counter. "What can I get ya, honey?" she asked Sirius.
"Two butterbeers please," he answered.
"Coming right up."
Yvonne and Sirius waited until their drinks arrived to start talking. "So how have you been?" Sirius said.
"I've been better. This year is just one of those complicated years, you know?" she replied.
"I understand completely. I'm so nervous because next year is our last year here. I don't even know what I wanna do with my life."
"Become a jokester. You're good at that."
"That's true."
"Do you know anything about James and Lily? I mean, what's gonna happen to them after we finish Hogwarts?"
"Well, James is mentioning that he might be proposing to Lily. But don't tell her that. It's supposed to be a surprise."
"Don't worry. I can keep my mouth shut."
He smiled warmly at her. The door suddenly opened and Sirius and Yvonne turned around to see who it was. Sirius growled to himself. Severus Snape and Lucius Malfoy came strutting over to them. "Goodness, Black, had no idea you had enough money to buy a butterbeer," sneered Severus.
"Yeah, ain't it a coincidence?" retorted Sirius. "So what are you doing here anyway, Snape?"
"None of your business." He then turned to Yvonne. "Always a pleasure to see you, Yvonne."
"Oh, you fancy her, don't you?" cried Sirius. Severus went very red and began to slowly exit the pub. Yvonne glared at Sirius, but didn't say anything. The way Snape had blushed the minute Sirius had mentioned him fancying her was enough to give him away. "Come back here, you stupid Slytherin!" shouted Sirius angrily. "If you're so tough then tell the pretty lady how you feel!"
Yvonne nudged him roughly. "Sirius, please stop," she said.
"But it's fun to torture him," he complained.
She glared at him and crossed her arms over her chest. "Okay, fine, I'll stop," he sighed. "C'mon, we better go. The others are probably looking for us."
Sure enough when they left the pub, James and the others were waiting for them. "We're heading back for Hogwarts, Sirius," stated James. "I trust you both had a good time?"
"Simply marvelous," answered his friend. Yvonne sat by the fireplace once more once they came back to Hogwarts. She looked over on her left and saw Lily snuggled up to James. She secretly wished that she and Sirius could be doing the same thing. Lily saw how depressed her friend looked and told James to go talk to Sirius.
"Yvonne?" the redhead muttered.
"Yeah?"
"How are you?"
"Alone."
"No, I mean physically."
"Same as the answer before: alone."
"Stop being smart with me."
"Fine, I feel depressed. I want Sirius to like me."
"He does like you."
"Yes, but not enough for me to snuggle up to him like you do with James."
"Yvonne, you don't fall in love over night."
"It can happen."
"In movies it can, but not in real life."
"Lily, I don't pay attention to movies a lot, even if my mother is a fanatic about them. I've only seen a few and every time, the people in the movie fell in love in a day. I want what they have."
"You can't. Love doesn't work that way."
"Well it should."
"James is talking with Sirius right now."
"Why? We have absolutely nothing to say to each other."
"Say how you feel. Tell him the truth."
"But what if I frighten him away?"
"You won't. Sirius is strong and a little love confession won't kill him."
"You're right."
"Of course I am. Now go talk to the boy you love."
"Lily."
"Yes?" she asked turning around with a big smile.
"Shut up." Lily grinned and walked back over to James. Yvonne saw Sirius glance at her uncertainly then he made his way over to her.
"So, um, how are you? James said you wanted to talk to me," he said staring deeply into her eyes.
"Sirius, if I tell you how I feel, you won't freak out, will you?"
"No, of course not."
"Good. See, um, I...like you. Actually, it's more like love, but you get the point. Anyway, it all began back in fifth year. You were so handsome that I couldn't resist you and now I start getting weird sensations when you're around."
Sirius's eyes widened. A girl liked him? This wasn't the first time for someone to admit that to him. Yvonne Davis was one of the prettiest girls of her year and she liked him. Him, a troublemaker with a nasty attitude and snippy tongue. He felt like he could fly at that moment. He stared at her. The fire reflected off her features and it really brought out her blue eyes.
"Yvonne..." he said.
"Yes?"
"You're so beautiful."
Yvonne blushed. "Thanks," she replied.
Sirius pushed a strand of her brown hair out of her face. "So why did you wait until now to tell me how you felt?" he asked.
"Because I was scared you didn't feel the same way. I really like you, Sirius. I want what Lily and James have."
That left him speechless. He suddenly leaned closer and kissed her cheek. Yvonne felt herself blush again. His lips were so soft against her skin. Sirius came and sat down on the armrest of the chair. He looked into her eyes and pulled her gaze to him. He slowly lowered his head until his lips pressed against hers. The kiss started out simple. Yvonne wasn't sure how to react, but did her first instinct. She drew him closer to her. That caused Sirius to fall into her lap, but neither of them cared.
They separated and laughed at the awkward position they were in. "If someone finds us like this, we could get in big trouble," noted Sirius.
"Then we better make sure they don't find us like this," purred Yvonne. She trailed his lips with her delicate fingers. She finally pressed her mouth on his. A pleasurable moan escaped his lungs. Their arms encircled each other as their kiss deepened. Their lips smacked when they broke away. "I love you, Sirius," she whispered.
"I love you too, Yvonne," he replied and buried his head against her neck. He then began to kiss it. She groaned in pleasure. If they had not been in the common room, their clothes would have already been off, but they weren't ready to go to the extreme yet. They finally stopped kissing and bid each other good night.
Yvonne went to sleep that night with happy thoughts. Sirius loved her and that's all that mattered at the moment. For once, she felt whole. Her heart was beating almost a million times a second. The touch of his lips on hers was enough to make her melt. She closed her eyes in bliss as she thought of Sirius.
Sixth year went by amazingly fast. Yvonne and Sirius went through the rest of the year as a couple. They weren't afraid to show their emotions in public either. At Quidditch matches they would cheer James on. Yvonne, because she was slightly shorter than Sirius, would sit on his lap to see better. But during the last week of seventh year, something happened that shouldn't have.
Sirius wasn't being himself. His friends weren't sure why. James was marrying Lily after he got a decent job and a house. It was their dream. But Sirius hadn't talked to anyone, not even Yvonne. She was worried for him. Finally she plucked up the courage to talk with him.
"Sirius?" she asked quietly.
He turned around swiftly in a flush of anger. "What do you want?" he snarled in a voice that was unlike his own.
"I...I just wanted to ask you something. Um, are you okay?"
"I'm fine," he snapped. "Why are you asking me that?"
"Maybe because I'm concerned," she spat back. "You know, something's gotten into you and I don't like it. And frankly, I'm not so sure that I like you anymore either."
"Fine, go find someone else!" he shouted. "You think you'll find so one else you can f&*^ better?!"
Yvonne was so shocked at his language that she just stood there in confusion. "Sirius, what has gotten into you?" she asked.
"Nothing!"
"No, something's wrong. Until you find out what it is, I'm not seeing you anymore."
"Fine, leave the only person who loved you, even though he knew you were a slut!"
That last remark broke her heart. How could he be saying all those mean things to her? After all they had been through, this was the icing on the cake. Sirius wasn't himself and Yvonne wasn't sure why. Graduation came fast and she didn't speak to Sirius after that. James and Lily got married. She was Lily's maid of honor while Sirius was James's best man. That was the only other interaction the two had. However he seemed more cheerful at the wedding. He and Yvonne even danced a few times. But years passed and they didn't see each other again. That is where this story unfolds...
***
Sirius Black sat alone in his cell in Azkaban. The place was horrid. Dementors were everywhere, watching and feeling the prisoners' every move. The dark and sleepless nights were enough to drive someone crazy. But not Sirius. He wasn't guilty of any crime so the dementors couldn't feed on his soul, which they greatly detested. They lived on the souls of humans, and if one wasn't willing to give his/her soul, then the dementors were not happy.
Sirius stared out his window. The sky was a light blue with tints of purple and pink. It was sunset. His brown eyes opened and closed repeatedly. He suddenly opened his eyes again. There was a tapping on his windowsill. He stood and brushed his long, tangled hair out of his face. A small peregrine falcon with big blue eyes and brown tints on its feathers sat perched outside.
"What in the--?" Sirius began, but the bird silenced him. It began to peck at the bars and squawk angrily. It suddenly screeched aloud and switched to form a woman with brown hair and blue eyes wearing dark blue robes. "Who are you?" he asked urgently.
"Gee, Sirius, we don't speak to each other in a few years and suddenly you forget who I am?" replied the woman. "I'm Yvonne Davis."
Sirius stared at the woman. This couldn't be the innocent Yvonne Davis that he had known at Hogwarts, could it? But sure enough, to his worst wishes, it was. Yvonne had returned.
"What are you doing here?" he snarled.
"I'm here to bail you out. I know you're innocent. Besides, you got a godson to go see, don't'cha?"
"Yeah, Harry."
"Then don't complain. I'm getting you out of here whether you like it or not."
"Thank you...Yvonne."
"Don't mention it." The bars loosened and Sirius walked up to her.
"How can I repay you?" he whispered. He transformed into his dog form and stared at her expectantly.
"You can't," she replied and turned back into a falcon. Sirius carefully climbed out of the cell. Yvonne was about to follow, but was caught by a dementor. She was forced to go back to human form. She sat down on the rusty old floor of the cell and remained hidden in the shadows. Meanwhile, Sirius was swimming back to shore. He took one last look at Azkaban and wondered why Yvonne hadn't followed him. She was the fastest Animagus he knew, so naturally she would have flown out of the prison. Yvonne stood up and gazed out of the cell. She saw a black dog in the distance.
"Sirius!" she called desperately. "Don't wait up! Go to your godson! He needs you! Come back only when you feel is right!"
Sirius sadly listened to her and nodded. He ran away feeling the guilt pile onto him. A tear fell from Yvonne's beautiful blue eyes. "I'll await your return," she mumbled and slumped onto the floor.
